What makes KoffeePhoto different?

Photo sharing is all around. But what makes KoffeePhoto different?

First, KoffeePhoto is not solely a photo sharing web site. KoffeePhoto includes a full featured photo management software program available on the Linux, MacOS and Windows platforms. This makes day-to-day photo management fast and easy and, last but not the least, allows for offline operation and photo viewing. Also included are various photo touch-up functions and a true and automatic photo album backup and restoration feature.

Once online, the KoffeePhoto software agent takes care of synchronizing offline and online content for online publishing and backup purposes.

Depending on each photo album specific settings, pictures can be shared online or not. If online sharing is allowed, the pictures can be viewed using classical web pages or full screen Flash based slideshows. Pictures can also be displayed using various methods thanks to RSS feeds and widgets. More, a micro-blog is attached to each photo allowing for commenting and chatting. Whatever the settings, private password protected viewing of the pictures is always allowed for the owner of the pictures.

Previously mentionned, the KoffeePhoto photo album backup and restoration feature relies on who has added your photo albums to his own photo library. In case of a failure, the KoffeePhoto software agent will automatically retrieve albums from your backup fellows.

All these features make KoffeePhoto quite a unique solution in the crowded photo sharing arena.

Simplified Chinese and Czech added to KoffeePhoto photo sharing locales

Two weeks after having introduced our KoffeePhoto Online Translation Interface, we are proud to announce two new locales added to KoffeePhoto, Simplified Chinese and Czech. Thanks to these additions, KoffeePhoto photo sharing gets one step closer to its users. No doubt more locales will be added soon.

Introducing KoffeePhoto localization tool

Photo sharing needs to be available everywhere. Since we started development, we wanted KoffeePhoto to break the boundaries and address the needs of photo sharing throughout the world. With this in mind we rapidly supported five locales, being English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish.

Time has now come for a further step. We therefore now launch our KoffeePhoto collaborative localization tool.

You want to have KoffeePhoto in Latvian or in Vietnamese? Whatever your language, your contribution is valuable for us. Please participate and log on at: http://translate.koffeephoto.com.

Thank you for your contribution.

How does KoffeePhoto backup and restore pictures

Each photo album created using KoffeePhoto is also automatically uploaded to KoffeePhoto servers, for online photo browsing and sharing purposes. KoffeePhoto automatically synchronizes content of your albums on multiple computers as your fellows add your albums to their photo library.

In case of loss of data, KoffeePhoto is capable of restoring your whole photo library using your sharing fellows as backup/restoration endpoints. Just reinstall KoffeePhoto and log in with your username and password, KoffeePhoto takes care of everything else. Your high resolution files will be retrieved from your sharing fellows’ computers.

Two guidelines to improve your backup level:

  1. Share your albums. Every friend who adds your albums to his photo library also serves as a backup point for you.
  2. If you own several computers, use your KoffeePhoto account on all of them. They will all keep in sync and serve as backup point one for the other.

Don’t wait to lose your photo library to take action.

KoffeePhoto back online…

Due to the recent release of KoffeePhoto 2.5 and the sudden increase of traffic (good news huh?), we’ve been experiencing high server load which has resulted in some service interruptions these two last days.

The problem is fixed now and all KoffeePhoto photo sharing services are back online. No other issue linked to this new release has been raised by now.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you for your support.

KoffeePhoto photo sharing 2.5 launches today

Long awaited KoffeePhoto photo sharing 2.5 launches today. This version is an important milestone in our product development plan as it includes a complete revision of our storage model as well as the tools provided for sharing slideshows.

  • As mentionned in a previous post, our storage model does not rely exclusively on a peer-to-peer model anymore.
  • Slideshows can now be viewed using a simple Flash based player. No more hassle dealing with our previously Java based player which caused some trouble installing.
  • Full online photo prints ordering.

While the migration will take some time because of the file format conversion tasks, the everyday experience will be far better thanks to improved performances and less CPU and bandwidth usage.

We put all our efforts to include user feedback into this version of KoffeePhoto and are convinced to have come much closer to the needs of our users.

KoffeePhoto reaches 10000…

For its first year of operation, KoffeePhoto reaches today its first 10000 users…

Thank you to everyone who has trusted us and we look forward for new achievements.

No doubt that our coming version will help us moving on a faster pace.

Sneak Preview of KoffeePhoto 2.5

KoffeePhoto 2.5 is close to be released. We’ve redefined a big part of how we deal with storing your pictures and displaying them.

Regarding the storage, we’ve limited peer-to-peer storage to people you share your pictures with. This allows us to remove the encryption process that slowed the process when adding new albums. This also provides you with a better level of confidence regarding of who has access to the pictures. We’ve also added more monitoring features allowing you to have a clear status information of how safe your pictures are. Last but not the least, this allows for reducing the number of nodes storing the pictures thus reducing the bandwidth usage involved.

Regarding the display, we’ve rewritten our previously Java based slide-show into a Flash based slide-show. Flash being present on almost every connected computer, this allows for far more simplicity and less hassle running the slide-show on any computer as Internet café’s connected computers.

And more obviously…

Generally speaking, we’ve kept our scope of functionality while improving the photo sharing user experience. Using KoffeePhoto, your pictures remain safe and sharing them will get even more straightforward.

KoffeePhoto 2.5 should be ready for release soon. More to come…
